Quilceda Creek
“Galitzine” Cabernet Sauvignon

quilceda creek washington state galitzine vineyard cabernet sauvignon

The 2013 growing season was similar to others we’d enjoyed in the near past, starting with a warm spring that promoted early bud development. Excellent weather continued through April, providing good canopy growth to nurture and protect the grapes from the sun. A hot and dry August-November allowed for perfect ripening, resulting in a wine that stands stylistically as a benchmark Galitzine release. It is an awesome wine that displays rich, complex aromas and flavors of classic blackberry and cassis fruit, sweet pipe tobacco, forest floor, and minerals. It is ripe and full-bodied with polished tannins. Aged in 100 percent new French oak for 20 months, the wine is 95 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Galitzine Vineyard and 5 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from Wallula Vineyard. This is a classic Red Mountain Cabernet that should offer exceptional drinking well past 2030.

"An utterly prodigious effort that would most likely be the wine of the vintage if not for its big brother, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Galitzine Vineyard comes all from Red Mountain and was raised in 100% new French oak. Revealing a healthy ruby/purple color and classic notes of sage brush, graphite, black cherries, currants and chocolate, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness; building, present, yet ripe and polished tannin; perfect integration of its fruit, alcohol and oak; and awesome length. This is a powerhouse Cabernet Sauvignon that still holds onto a sense of elegance and finesse. Forget it for 4-5 years and drink bottles over the following two decades."
