1992
Quilceda Creek
Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Our goal has always been making wine that is a pure expression of the character of the vintage and of the grapes, not the oak barrels or winemaking techniques. The 1992 release is an ideal example of how this works in our favor. The weather was a winemaker’s dream: a gentle winter, mild spring, and very warm summer right up to harvest.
Made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Ciel du Cheval, Kiona, Klipsun, and Mercer Ranch (Champoux) vineyards, the wine was aged in American oak for 22 months. It showed size and power from the beginning, but after several years of age its impressive fruit fell into balance with the wine’s medium-bodied structure. We achieved our lofty expectations for an elegant Cabernet with some power driving it. We produced 950 cases.

Black fruit and shoe polish aromas. Intensely flavored, vibrant crushed berry fruit is almost painfully vivid today, with bracing acidity giving the wine razor-sharp focus. But this is dense and ripe, with great purity of fruit and hidden density. A real fruit bomb which can be enjoyed now but probably should be cellared for several years."
